What treatment can I use on my glulam beams?

You can use any preservative. Our stock can be given wood protection treatment (Valtti Base) upon request.

What kind of wood is used in glulam?

Wood from sustainable Scandinavian forest - mainly spruce, but also redwood and Siberian larch.

What grade is the timber?

All our timber is C24 standard (in 45mm laminations).

What's the longest beam you have in stock?

All beams are kept in stock in 15.1 metre lengths - we cut to your specification.

Can I nail or drill the wood?

Yes. Glulam beams don't lose strength with nailing or drilling (within standard building requirements).

What's the delivery time from order?

Stock within five working days. Design to non-stock specification, 4-6 weeks. Glulam Supplies is the UK's biggest stockist of Moelven glulam.

What's the minimum percentage of certified timber in glulam?

Our timber contains a minimum 80% certified material from Tunadel sawmill, with sub-production of planed boards at Bergsaker Tra AB (Quality Forest Management certificate 0755/6972/0489).

How strong is glulam?

Glulam is 18% stronger than standard timber.

What sort of fire protection should be used?

We recommend Product 92 ES/VFR Fire Protection Coating, available from Holman Specialist Paints 01793 511 537 (). We can apply this coating for you pre-delivery, or you can do it yourself later.
